Sketch Sessions 92218

Updated: Sep 23, 2018

Quickie sketch created using Rebelle 3 on a SurfaceBook 2.

Posts here haven't been frequent over the last two weeks for a couple of reasons. The first being the Affinity Publisher Beta launched two weeks ago and I've been taking a lot of time to explore it. A post on the beta will be coming shortly. The other reason is I've been building up a totally NSFW erotic collection inspired by Thomas Poulton.

With that out of the way, this sketch was created to take a break after finishing a really extensive drawing that took a lot of long hours to finish. Using Rebelle 3 as I haven't really worked with it seriously for some time, I was reminded of why I don't use Rebelle to draw anymore.

Lag.

The cross hatching and facet technique I use requires a lot of fast short strokes and Rebelle 3 simply isn't fast enough to keep up. The strokes only register half the time and even when they do register, the pressure sensitivity isn't quite right. There are ways to compensate for this, work slower, more meticulously but that sucks when putting thousands of lines on the canvas. Ultimately, the cross hatching technique can't be used in Rebelle 3 until the lag is eliminated from the application. Using a smearing technique to create tone is a different story though. This works well with Rebelle 3 so I ran with that in this sketch.

The reminder being, I haven't found one creative application that covers all creative needs. Better to have a good variety to cover the bases.
